The funds generated at Loreto Fest go to education of the children in the area. HPYC/Loreto Fest last year was able to give donations to all 3 education levels:

Ligui AsistED: The program presently includes running a dormitory (Internado) and providing bus transportation for those high school students that live in the mountain ranches and in Agua Verde, giving supplementary financial support to the high school to run a morning session, and offering economic aid to the students in varying degrees according to their needs.  This year AsistED is helping 25 high school students and 19 college students.

Loreto Internado: 2 students were sponsored. Loreto Internado is a dormitory and grade school for children from the mountains ranches and outlaying areas.

University Loreto: Funds were donated for the higher education of students at the University.

Animalandia: Funds were donated to aid their spaying and neuter program.

This all happens with everyone coming to Loreto Fest to have fun, eating lots of Hot Dogs, baked goodies, buying T-Shirts - etc, and donating items to the Silent auction. Items are needed for the Silent Auction. If you have a special talent, painting, beading, jewelry, arts and craft items, a bottle of wine, or maybe you know of someone who would be interested in donating items from their business, the students would appreciate any and all help.

HPYC is an international recognized Yacht Club with receptacles at other yacht clubs. The Spaghetti Dinner and Pancake breakfast are free to members.

 Chili Cook - Off  2008

This years Loreto Fest will include the third annual chili-cook-off, "The Best of the Bean III". A small donation will allow tasters to sample many fine chilies including some past prize winners. This years cook-off will be held on Friday and start promptly at four, Mexican time. If you feel that your Aunt Bea's secret chili recipe can't be beat or you just fancy the idea of meeting lots of new folks and doing a bit of socializing whip up a small batch, five or six quarts.

Email: hiddenportyachtclub@hotmail.com or “Carlota” Dave K1BGD@yahoo.com  Or give a VHF call to Sunlover or Carlota when you get in the area.

There will be tortillas to go along with the Chili and for the gastronomically adventurous hot dogs can be had for the ever popular "chili dogs". Pot-Luck deserts will follow negating the need to return to the boat before the local dance troupe begins their show around six.

Cook off winners will be announced later that evening and their names will be added to the Club's perpetual trophy. As in past years extra attention will be given to entrants with the most creative name/warning label.

If you have never been to a Loreto Fest, held at Puerto Escondido, it is 4 Days of FUN and MUSIC

Proceeds from Loreto Fest go to the education of children in the area.

The theme is Roman Gods and Goddess for the 12th Loreto Fest. Dig through the lockers and bodegas for your best Roman dressage.

This beautiful quilt is being made for the Silent Auction.

Loreto Fest Music 2008:

I think we have managed to recruit a number of musicians who have never played Loreto Fest before. So, we will look forward to that. We hope to have the sound system set up and available for practice and rehearsals in the afternoons at least 10 days before the festival and want to invite musicians and singers to take advantage of that opportunity whenever they can. As far as the festival itself goes, in addition to the several nights of musical performances from the stage, this year we plan to have a couple of acoustic musical jams in the round, one on Thursday and one again on Sunday. Also, on Friday night to open the evening musically we want to do a special segment right after dinner on Sailing Songs and Songs of the Sea. So we ask everyone to sort through their material to dig out a song or two for this part of the program.

Tune up that guitar or fiddle, pull out that songbook, and put on your dancin' shoes. It is time to put the 2008 Loreto Fest and Cruisers' Music Festival on your calendar the first weekend in May, 2008. Whether you like to make music, dance, or just hang out with old and new friends, come and join us in Puerto Escondido for a really good time.

If you would like to participate as a musician contact Michael, sv Ramble on Rose, KI6DYF, mmcn@jps.net

If you missed Loreto Fest 2007 you missed out. It  was as good as always meeting new friends, seeing old friends, lots of games, activities, and the greatest music in the Sea.

Thank you to the API  personnel for the use of their grounds and facilities, this area is an ideal location.

Also present and filming this year's L.F. was Darren and the crew from Latitudes and Attitudes.

Fred "Casa Anuja" and Sam "Maverick" were in charge of the Beer Gardens. They and those volunteering to serve all those beers, mixed drinks and soda did a terrific job. Did you just read volunteering, it is more like begging. Too much fun is had each year by all.

If anyone can identify these knees it will get you a free beer at Loreto Fest 2008.

Music does not get any better than what you find during the four days of L.F. If you are a musician, like to listen, or like to dance you will hear it all. Show and musical director Jim "Priority"  along with sound man Rick "Tortuga", and all the musicians that were on hand to play and/or sing did an outstanding job. Thursday night was a warm up jam session. Friday night the program was "The Blend" Saturday "Rock & Roll - Rhythm & Blues"  Sunday was a open jam. Everyone including all those playing the music had too much fun. The dancers did not want to stop dancing and the musicians did not want to stop playing.

Everyone attending Loreto Fest enjoyed the hot dogs, especially the workers. Thanks to Laine and Peter "Cheerios"

Thursday: Hors d'oeuvres, happy hour and a jam session was the kick off for the four days.

Friday: The swap meet took place on the sea wall by the dingy dock. Laine "Cheerios" had coffee and baked goodies to help fortify the swappers. Every year there is more participation and more things being swapped.

Marilyn "Tortuga" held a two day beading workshop on Friday and Sunday. Victoria "Chez Moi", who has taught beading in Mazatlan, attended also.

Janet "Mystical" demonstrated her artistic abilities with the face painting for all ages. She also painted the "Bikini" gal used for photographs. The pictures of the kayak parade show more of her beautiful work.

You have heard it said this is a very special area of the sea. There are no ages here all are one. You share and learn about sea life, others and yourself. "Vela" Peetie was the heart of the sea. The Kayak Parade was her favorite and pet. Every year she would add an extra special touch for those participating. This year daughter "Ginny" volunteered to direct the parade. A very proud and happy Peetie was looking down on the parade this year. (Left) "Vela" Bob watches the preparations. (Right)  A Very happy group.

It was hard to know if getting ready or the parade was more fun and who had the most fun. (Below)

Every year Loreto Fest is dedicated to the memory of a valued and beloved member. This year two were recognized.

Rainey "Casa Anuja"

August 28, 1946 - January 7, 2007

Rainey, our "Hostess with the Mostest", loved being  social director and putting parties together  for HPYC and at home. The only friend she did not have was the one she had not met.

Willie "Willie's Tienda"

September 18, 1958 - December 1, 2006

Willie, established his Tienda in Tripui and later closer to the highway. He was our friend, always cruiser friendly, and helpful. Since the first Loreto Fest  he supplied all the food and beer.

This year Med Tying was set up and made available in the Ellipsis for those wishing to drop the hook.

Dingy dock security was headed by "Vela" Bob and Annie "Calliope". Thank you both and your crew watching over the dinghys.

A special Thank You to those that help organize the fest, planning meals, events, seminars, workshops, bringing in the food items needed, the set up crew and those doing all the behind the scenes running around before and during the fest.  A VERY big Thank You to all the musicians who also devoted countless hours and weeks of time.

Loreto Fest would never happen without the most important ingredient to a great event.      "Everyone comes to have fun and also steps in to help."

Thank You all that came to Loreto Fest 2007.
