Loreto Fest

   Events: Commodore's Ball & Super Bowl 2005

There might be a couple of the new waves in the Harbor, but in good cruiser fashion, the fun goes on.

Stop by Puerto Escondido have a good time and meet some great people.

Loreto Fest 2004:

Our 10th Annual Loreto Fest, held at Puerto Escondido on May 6th thru the 9th, 2004 was a grand celebration. It was attended by a large number of cruising boats as well as may locals. Over 100 vessels arrived for the Fest and many of their skippers and crew signed on for duty and worked hard to make it a success.

Many participated in the "Bay Clean Up", which was the beginning of the Fest in 1995. There were lots of games, much good food, beer and fun. A daily and evening music program was put together by Jo "Una Mata" our vice commodore. She did a super job gathering musicians mostly from boats, providing a wide range of talent, and deserves our warmest thanks. In fact our "Thanks" goes out to all the wonderful guys and gals who helped make the fest a winner!

One addition was the number of children, 16, who attended this year. They kept busy helping and really added to the fun.

We are already busy working on plans for next year's Loreto Fest and look forward to seeing all of you in 2005.

                                  Sincerely,

                                Angus Mackenzie

Loreto Fest has almost become a music fest, many cruisers in the sea come to jam and play. Jo "Una Mata" and the great musicians made this year's music fun and entertaining for the crowd and the participants.

NEW YEAR'S EVE PARTY

Fred and Rainey "Casa Anuja" started the New Year with a fun New Year's Eve Party.

CHRISTMAS PARTIES

Christmas was enjoyed by all on sea or land with three parties.

Raft Up

Christmas Day dawned, blue skies and no wind, the makings for a good Christmas Raft Up.

Everyone arrived bringing their best appetizers. The three boats shrunk in size with all the people and food.

Casa Anuja

Fred and Rainey "Casa Anuja" had the first party, Monday December 20th. Fred made his famous Egg Nog  and the fixins' for Turkey sandwiches. There were about 40 that bought great food to share. The Christmas cheer and spirit was started for the season.

Mystical

Christmas Eve Janet "Mystical" hosted a pot luck dinner at her palapa in Juncalito, where Christmas revelers enjoyed Mexican Jamaica-rum punch and food fit for cruising royalty.

In addition to the 23 party goers, a strong cold, north wind crashed the party and chilled the atmosphere.

Before any quests were allowed to flee the cold, the hostess required each to oooh and aaah over her lovely Xmas Lights.

The party began at 4:00 PM and ended by 6:30 PM. We believe this "dine and dash" behavior has earned a place in the Guinness Book of Records as the shortest Xmas party ever.

With the dropping temperature,  everyone went home, to snuggle in their beds to await Christmas Day.

CHRISTMAS for the KIDS

In past years HPYC has supported the Internado School in Loreto in many different ways. Read the following three articles .

ANNUAL CHRISTMAS GIFT PARTY

Linda and Robin Nicholls hosted their annual dinner party November 13th to provide Christmas gifts for the students of Internado located in Loreto. There are 61 students this year.

Linda and Robin put on an outstanding party for all to enjoy and to help the children have a Christmas. Many of these children would have no Christmas without their efforts and the support of the people attending.

It was a nice party with good food. Unfortunate for the children the number of people attending was half of previous years. The only six members of HPYC were land based, due to the harbor situation.

Linda sent this Thank You and Invitation.

On behalf of the students of the Alburgue 8 Internado, I would like to thank you again for being so very generous in you donations to help make the Christmas gift giving a huge success.

I love being able to make the Holiday special for our 61 students and with your help it will be a wonderful Posada.

Please remember you are always welcome to visit the Internado when you are in Loreto.

 Invitation

The dates for the wrapping of the presents for the Children's Posada will be December 14 at 8:30 a.m. and the Posada will be December 16 at 4:00 p.m. Both will be held at the school.

Thank you again.

Linda Nicholls

Linda and Director of Internado Chuy also sent a big thank you to Fred and Rainey  "Casa Anuja" for the freezer they donated to the school.

SWAP MEET & BAKE SALE

Nov. 6. 2004

The semi annual swap meet and bake sale was located by the dinghy dock. There was some swapping and baked goodies. This year the bake sale generated 1100 P. for the Lugui Internado Christmas party.  Selling the baked items were Mary "Angelos" and Joan and Ken "Challenger".   The baked items disappeared quickly, hopefully next year there are more items available.

Thank you for the great baked goods and donations.
